About the MCHS Orchestra Program
With approximately 180 students, the Mill Creek High School Orchestra program is a vibrant community dedicated to musical excellence and meaningful performance experiences. Our orchestras perform at least four times a year both at school and throughout the community, showcasing the work of four ensembles: Concert, Symphonic, Philharmonic, and Chamber Orchestras. Students audition for placement into our Philharmonic and Chamber ensembles, where they are challenged to perform at the highest level.
Mill Creek Orchestras have performed at well-known venues and events including the Kennesaw State University Orchestra Invitational, Festival Disney, and the American Cathedral in Paris. Travel is an integral part of our program, providing students with enriching cultural and musical experiences. Recent international tours include a 2024 trip to Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, and an upcoming 2026 tour to Japan. In December 2026, members of the orchestra will travel to Hawaii to participate in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade, with performances scheduled in the parade and aboard the USS Missouri.
Our students consistently represent Mill Creek in highly selective ensembles and programs such as GMEA All-State Orchestras, Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra, Gwinnett County Youth Symphony, Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra. They are also regularly selected for distinguished opportunities including the Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall and the Governor’s Honors Program. Alumni of the Mill Creek Orchestra program have gone on to attend top universities such as Yale University, Duke University, MIT, Harvard University, Rice University, Georgia Tech, and the University of Georgia, among many others.
