Math Honor Society- Mu Alpha Theta

About Us

Purpose: To promote scholarship in mathematics and service to the community. The Mill Creek chapter of Mu Alpha Theta is part of the National Math Honor Society.

Dues: $30.00 per year for 1st year members and $20 per year for returning members. Due no later than Friday, September 22nd. This fee includes National membership fees and certificates for first years, t-shirts, cords for seniors, pins for underclassmen and our celebrations. Do not pay dues until you are verified to be eligible by Mrs. Vasquez (see below).

Eligibility Requirements

  • Math Course Level – The student must be currently in Precalculus or higher.
  • Grades – The student must have at least a 90 average in all math classes on record. The student is responsible for verifying grades with a sponsor at the beginning of each semester. 
  • Attendance at meetings is expected unless you have illness or an important conflict. Attending meetings earns you an hour so the more you attend (and stay the entire time) the more hours you will earn.
  • Service – All members: At least thirty hours per school year with a minimum of 20 being math activity hours (doing something that promotes math or the math department at Mill Creek, like tutoring, service to a math teacher) are required. Participating in Mill Creek’s Math Team counts as 10 non-math hours for the whole school year. You do not have to complete all 30 hours in Fall Semester. We have several spring activities and want full member attendance.  
    • Seniors: All 30 hours must be completed by Friday, March 20th for Seniors
    • Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors: All other members must complete 30 hours by Tuesday, April 21st.

Meetings

Meeting dates are once a month and we will post them here once the dates have been settled on by the officers. Meetings are located in C211 at 2:15 pm unless we arrange a different location in advance. Plan to be at the entire meeting; drop-ins are considered not in attendance. Remember, meeting attendance earns you an hour.

Membership

If you wish to be considered as an active member (either new or returning member) for the 2025-2026 school year please follow the directions step-by-step. Failure to follow these steps will result in not being admitted to the club.

  1. Join the Mu Alpha Theta Google Classroom. Google Classroom Code for 2025-2026: jl4vh6s3
  2. Go to the section about membership information and complete the Application which includes a form and Submitting your grades. 
  3. Mrs. V will check your application and will invite you to Mu Alpha Theta if you are approved. If not approved, she will notify you as well. 
  4. Once approved, head to MyPaymentsPlus to pay dues. Do not pay dues until you have received an email approving you. We will not refund dues paid for a student who ended up not getting accepted into the club.
