The Task:
After reading a YA (young adult) book of your choice, create a one-pager. This is a detailed, one page artistic representation of the major themes & ideas of the book using words & images. Check out this example, but make sure to follow the guidelines below. You may create your one-pager by hand using markers, colored pencils, etc. or use this Canva template (or scan the QR code) to create a digital one-pager. If creating one by hand, stop by the library for a copy or you may print the blank Canva template linked above.
Your one-pager must include:
- The title and author of the book in the oval in the top center of the page
- A decorative border going around the page that represents the setting of your book.
- An image/drawing and words in the upper left hand box that represents what you consider to be the most important symbol in the text.
- Images/drawings and words in the upper right hand box that represent the key characters from the text and how they changed throughout the book.
- Images/drawings and quotations in the lower left hand box that show the book’s mood or the author's tone, and the power of the language that is used.
- Images/drawings and/or words in the lower right hand box that show real world connections between the themes in the book and what is going on in the world today.
- A powerful quote in the long center rectangle that showcases the main theme of the novel - make sure to include a page # at the end.
Turn in your one-pager to be entered to win!
Be thoughtful with your design choices, and make sure to fill up the entire page. Write/type your name and student ID # clearly on your one-pager. Turn in your completed one-pager to Mrs. Garcia & Mrs. Thomson in the MCHS library by Friday, Aug. 14, 2026. *To turn in digitally, email a public view link to: millcreekhslibrary@gmail.com
Once you turn it in, your name will be entered in the Mill Creek HS Library drawing to win the grand prize ($50 Amazon gift card). There will also be a runner-up prize ($25 Amazon gift card). Want to be entered twice to win? Read another book and create a 2nd one-pager for an additional entry in the prize drawing. We can’t wait to see your designs!
